I finished Melanie's quilt

The quilt is finished and the wedding isn't until Saturday. The label is ready to be stitched on. This quilt was a hurry-up job since Melanie didn't give us much notice about her upcoming nuptials. And I was busy getting Benjamin's baby quilt made for a shower that is also on Saturday. As a result of time restrictions I chose an easy and quick pattern that I was already planning to use for Audrey's quilt. It turned out really cute, and the quilting was so fun. I branched out and tried a new quilting pattern-a curlicue. It is a random spiral, and it was so much fun to do. And to make the quilting easier I quilted the top in two sections, then joined the sections after quilting. After that was done, I added the border and then quilted it. There was so much less material and weight to move around. I'm going to plan my future quilts so that I can quilt them in sections too.

Here are the unjoined sections. I left about 3 inches unquilted on each side of the seam.

I sewed the fronts together, then joined the battings, and finally the backs.

After quilting the area along the seam I stitched the batting to the border  backing 1/2 inch from the edge. Then I laid the quilt over the border with the right sides of the backings together.

I placed the border right side down on top of the quilt and stitched through all layers. After folding the backing and border together I pressed the seam. I added the side borders first and then the top and bottom. It was pretty easy to quilt the borders, since most of the quilt was to the left of my machine needle.

Here's the finished product, ready for the bride and groom.
